Frequently Asked Questions

What is a birth doula?
A birth doula is defined as a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to their client before, during and shortly after childbirth to help them achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible. Countless scientific trials examining doula care demonstrate remarkably improved physical and psychological outcomes for both pregnant, birthing, and postpartum people and their baby. Doulas have a positive impact on the well-being of the entire family!

When should I hire a doula?
You can hire a doula whenever you would like, but generally it would be a good idea to hire one between 32-36 weeks.

What is the role of a birth doula?
Doulas help make birth better! They nurture, support and offer expert guidance for families during their pregnancy, birth and the early postpartum time. There is incredible evidence that shows how birth doulas improve outcomes!

What type of births does sage + clover support?
Sage + Clover supports many different types of births including hospital births, home births, and birth center births. We also work with clients who are attempting VBAC's, planned and unplanned cesarean sections. Whether you are planning a drug free birth, or are planning on using medication, we are here to support and advocate for you!

What's the difference between a doula and a midwife?
Midwife's provide medical care and deliver the baby. Doulas do not provide any medical care.

How much is it going to cost?
Self pay clients can expect to spend between $1,500-$2,000 depending on which package they choose from. Some insurance plans are accepted, and in that case there is no out of pocket costs for the client. Sage + Clover is currently able to bill medicaid (OHP), PEBB, & OEBB.

I am not religious or share the same faith. Would we be a good fit?
While my faith is very important to me and has shaped who I am today, you absolutely do not need to share in the same beliefs! I believe that all humans are created and loved by God and I am called to love and serve anyone who wants to partner with me in their birth journey. While a lot of fellow Christians are drawn to my services, I do not integrate my personal faith aspects into my services unless my client specifically requests me to do so (i.e. praying for client while in labor)
